Former Odisha MLA passes away

Former MLA of Kotpad in Odisha’s Koraput district Basudeb Majhi passed away at the Apollo Hospital in the city here on late Saturday night.

Basudeb MallickHe was 67 and is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters.

Majhi was suffering from protracted illness for a long time, family sources said.

Born on July 17, 1947, Majhi had joined the Indian National Congress in 1964.

Being a popular leader, he was elected from Kotpad Assembly constituency for eight times in a row from 1974 to 2014.

Due to his illness, he could not contest the 2014 Assembly elections.

He was the chairman of Kotpad Panchayat Samiti from 1971 to 1974.

He was also the chairman of the Committee on Welfare of SC and ST of the State Assembly.

Several Congress leaders have condoled the sad demise of Majhi.
