Bhubaneswar, Feb 14:
Senior Odisha Congress leader and former minister Habibulla Khan passed away at a hospital in Vishakhapatnam this afternoon following a protracted illness.
He was 81.
A nine-time MLA from Nabarangpur constituency, Khan was elected twice from his home constituency as a candidate of Swatantra Party in 1971 and 1974.
Later, he joined the Congress and was elected as MLA consecutively for eight times from 1977 to 2004.
Expressing profound grief over the death of Khan, senior Congress leader and former minister Niranjan Patnaik said Khan was an able organizer and a man of amiable personality who had worked relentlessly for the development of undivided Koraput district.
“The Bhubaneswar Congress unit had strengthened and progressed under his leadership. With his death, the party has lost an able organizer,” Patnaik said while expressing his deep condolence to the bereaved family.
