Bhubaneswar, July 30:
Former Odisha DGP Prakash Mishra’s name has been cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Central Cabinet for the post of Special Secretary, Internal Security in the ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
This was formally notified today.
The key post has been lying vacant for the last ten months since S Jayraman retired in September last year.
The internal security division looks after some of the most crucial and sensitive areas such as Left Wing Extremism, insurgency, intelligence collation and dissemination as well as tasking of various central security agencies and police forces.
Mishra,a 1977 batch Odisha cadre IPS, is now posted as CMD Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC), considered an insignificant position for an officer of his stature.
His name was recommended by the Home Ministry for the key Central post on July 3 this year and the Union Home minister Rajnath had informed this to the Odisha chief minister on July 4.
However, the state government chose to shift Mishra from the post of DGP on the following day and appointed him as the CMD of OSRTC and appointed his former deputy Sanjeev Marik in his place.
