Former Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik, who had resigned from the post of member, Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) citing ‘personal grounds’ recemtly, today joined Vedanta Group as President – Vedanta University Project.
Speculation was rife that the former bureaucrat would be joining as the next Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of the state. However, he sprang a surprise after joining the Anil Agarwal-led foundation’s university project as its president.
Notably, Patnaik had sent his resignation to Governor SC Jamir on April 20 for acceptance citing ‘personal reasons’ for his resignation.
In his new role, he will lead the company’s University-cum-Smart City initiative as part of Anil Agarwal Foundation. Patnaik will be based in Bhubaneswar and will also direct other initiatives on behalf of the Company to serve the society and the nation at large, a company release said.
The 1976-batch IAS officer had a distinguished career in Civil Services. He was Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Odisha before becoming the Chief Secretary to the Government of Odisha in September 2010. Post his superannuation, he was appointed as Chairman of Odisha Staff Selection Commission and subsequently Member, Odisha Human Rights Commission in July, 2014.
