Former MLA Habibulla Khan’s son Tariq Hasan Khan today joined Biju Janata Dal in the presence of party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Odisha capital.
The only son of the deceased leader from Nabarangpur joined the regional party at Naveen Niwas along with over 100 other Congress members at a formal function.
“I am extremely happy that veteran Congress leader and former Minister Habibulla Khan’s son has left his party and joined BJD. With him joining the party, BJD with get strengthened in Nabarangpur. I welcome them all to the party,” Naveen Patnaik said.
Khan alleged that he has been ignored in the Congress party for which he decided to join BJD.
“I have joined BJD with an intention to serve people,” Tariq Hasan Khan said.
Khan was looking after the organisaitonal activities of Congress in Nabarangpur district.
It may be mentioned here that Tariq’s father Habibulla Khan was elected to the state assembly from Nabarangpur seat for a record nine times without losing a single election ever since he first contested in 1971.
Notably, the senior Khan died last year in February at a private hospital in Visakhapatnam afer a prolonged illness at the age of 81.
