Bhubaneswar, Jun 10:
The suspense over the next move of former Odisha chief minister Giridhar Gamang after resigning from the Congress recently, has finally been put to rest. It is now clear that he is all set to join the BJP.
Giridhar’s son Sisir said he would accompany his father to New Delhi today where he is scheduled to meet BJP National President Amit Shah and other Central party leaders.
“The BJP Central leadership has given a green signal to our joining the party,” Sisir said.
He, however, said the date and venue have not been fixed for the formal announcement of Giridhar joining the BJP.
Sisir also informed that he had a meeting with senior state BJP leaders, including president KV Singhdeo, senior leader Bijay Mohapatra, organising secretary Prasanna Mishra and local BJP leader Bhrugu Buxipatra on Monday.
“The state BJP leaders have agreed to our joining the BJP and recommended the same to the Central party leaders,” he added.
Giridhar’s entry into BJP is said to be part of the game plan of the Central BJP leadership, which is in search of a tribal leader to strengthen the party in Odisha at the grassroots level.
Coming as it does after the appointment of Jual Oram as Union Tribal Affairs minister and Draupadi Murmu as the Governor of Jharkhand, the decision to induct Giridhar in the party is seen as another move of the Central BJP leadership to strengthen the party’s base in Odisha, sources in the political circles said.
