The birth centenary of legendary leader Biju Patnaik is being celebrated this year. Other than being a visionary, statesman, industrialist, pilot and politician, Biju Patnaik was a connoisseur of good food. Dalma, the chain of restaurants serving tasteful Odia cuisine, is organizing a special food festival in the memory of Bijubabu, this month which will continue till Sunday at all Dalma restaurants across Odisha.
Biju Patnaik always enjoyed and loved his food. Be it the large prawns and Hilsas or the popular Odia fish Pohala, he enjoyed them thoroughly. Besides, he was also fond of the Enduri, Chakuli and Rasaballis of Kendrapada.
Another favourite of the great leader was the Sukhuaa or the dried fish, mostly Hilsa and Khaeenga, from the Banapur area, near Chilika.
Dalma has attempted to present some of the favourite dishes of the great leader to the people of Odisha, at the food festival. Some of the favourites of Bijubabu like, prawn masala fry, fried chicken, pomfret mustard fry, Hilsa jhol, fish cutlet, mutton chop, sukhuaa fry along with egg masala, caramel custard (popularly known in Odisha as pudding), Pohala jhol, Rasaballi etc. are being presented for the guests to relish.
This festival is being presently held in all outlets of DALMA in Bhubaneswar, Puri and Rourkela. Subsequently, similar festivals will be organised at the outlets in Bangalore, Kolkata and New Delhi.
This festival was inaugurated early this week by Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister Tourism and Culture, in the presence of Bijay K Mohanty, MLA (Bhubaneswar Central), Priyadaarshi Mishra MLA (Bhubaneswar North) and Anant Narayan Jena, Mayor, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
