Bhubaneswar, Mar 28:
Seven BJD MLAs, including Amar Satpathy, Sashi Bhusan Behera met the members of Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) today in lower PMG in Odisha’s capital asking the farmers’ body to withdraw their agitation.
NKS in reply has given the state government a deadline till today evening for a written assurance of the acceptance its demands.
The organisation working to protect the interests of farmers in the state has been demanding pension for the farmers and to recognise the farmer suicide cases in the state.
Akshay Kumar, state convener of Navanirman Krushak Sangathan has threatened a massive ‘jail bharo’ agitation in master canteen tomorrow.
He has said that Odisha government neither held any discussion nor held a meeting on the farmers death issue even after fast-unto-death by the farmers. He said that the appeal by the minister to farmers to withdraw their agitation was hilarious.
Notably, on Saturday Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Sanjay Das Burma had said that government is positive about the demands of the NKS. He had said that a high level meeting will be held today to discuss the various issues placed by the Sangathan.
Meanwhile, members of NKS had launched a 12-day hunger strike from March 18 pressing for fulfillment of various demands including government recognition of farmer suicide, Rs 5,000 as pension, correct rates for their produce among others.
