Five persons acquitted in Kandhamal pastor murder case

Phulbani, Dec 19 :

The Additional Sessions judge Rajendra Kumar Tosh on Thursday acquitted all the five persons accused of murdering Divyasingh Digal, pastor of Drepanga village in Sarangad on August 25, 2008 during the peak of anti-Christian riots  in Kandhamal.

The judge ordered their acquittal for lack of evidence, sources said.

These five persons, identified as Ranjan Behera, Gadadhar Sahu, Padmacharan Panda, Gurudev Pradhan and Dilu Mohanty, were arrested on the basis of an FIR filed by the deceased’s wife Pushpanjali Panda.

Banbehari Mohanty, Mitu Mohapatra and Rabi Panda were the counsels for the five accused.
