Bhubaneswar, Feb 5:
Visitors to five major parks in the Odisha capital will very soon enjoy the benefits of open air gym where they will be able to avail the services free of cost.
The work has already started and Rs 2.5 crore will be spent on five parks in Bhubaneswar– IG Park, Unit-8 Park, Harekrushna Mahatab Park near BJB College, Dharma Vihar Park and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Park near Satsang Vihar— which will house open air gyms.
Fitness freaks can visit the park during the working hours to these parks where 12 fitness equipment will be installed at a cost of Rs 48 lakh at each centre.
These parks will have exercise machines like air walker, sit up bench, air swing, twisters, glider, push and pull up chair, Knee/hip raise on parallel bar, big shoulder wheel, spinner, dumbbell fitting bench, weight lifting flat bench, weight lifting fixed pole among others.
These machines are being set up so that people from all classes and sections can take the benefit of open air gym, said BDA chief horticulturist, Ashok N Dhar.
These instruments have been fitted in the park in such a way that no instructor will be needed for exercising. There are plans to equip more parks with such exercising machines as well as more instruments in these parks itself.
Earlier, parks in Buddha Jayanti Park in Niladri Vihar, Guru Kelucharan Park, Madhusudan Park in Pokariput, Kharavela Park in Khandagiri, had been equipped with open air gym. Since no protection has been provided for the vagaries of weather, equipment have been exposed to decay resulting in rusting of parts.
There is, therefore, demand for roofing over the equipment by the locals.
