Six labourers killed in road accident in Odisha’s Rayagada dist

Six persons were killed and over 20 others injured, 10 of them seriously, when a mini truck in which they were travelling, overturned near Mundaghati under Tikiri police station limits in Odisha’s Rayagada district this morning.


According to reports, a 709 mini truck was on its way to the Utkal Alumina complex at Lachhuguda carrying over 30 labourers from Kutraguda in the morning when the driver lost control of the overloaded vehicle which overturned at Mundaghati.

The incident took place at about 8 AM.

The deceased have been identified as Ishwar Majhi (24), Sakhali Majhi (19), Dambaru Majhi (30). Durba Lahara (52), Dambarudhar Majhi (28) (all from Kutraguda village) andSuresh Jani (22) of Puhundi village.

Of the six deceased, Durba Lahara succumbed to his injuries at Kashipur hospital while Dambarudhar Majhi died near Parvatipuram while being shifted to a hospital at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh while four other labourers died on the spot.

Of the seriously injured labourers, Malati Majhi (30), Alaka Majhi (22) and Indumati Majhi (30) were admitted to the Rayagada district headquarters hospital while others were admitted to Kashipur and Tikiri hospitals.

Looking at the critical condition of the seriously injured labourers, the death is likely to go up, the reports added.

“We neither know the contractor and nor the nature of work we were assigned,” said Bharat Majhi, who was grievously injured in the accident.
