Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested five persons for their involvement in a burglary in Nageswar Tangi under Lingaraj Police limits here on October 26 this year, police said.
The accused, Bhagaban Karan (24), Santosh Kumar Swain (19), Gagan Kumar Pradhan (21), Surendra Pradhan (48) and Sameer Acharya (35) were booked under section 457, 394 of IPC and were forwarded to the court today. All accused were from Ganjam and were staying near Bindusagar in Lingaraj area.
Gold ornaments weighing 300 gm, worth around Rs 9 lakh, were recovered from the five, police said. “Based on a tip-off received, we raided their hideout and arrested the accused persons from near Raja Rani temple here,” said Bidyut Panda, Inspector-in-charge of Lingaraj Police Station.
Of the five arrested, Sameer was the purchaser of the stolen gold ornaments sold by the other four accused. The incident came to light after one Bighneswar Das Choudhary (84) of Nageswar Tangi filed a complaint in the police station regarding the burglary at his house in which the burglars had decamped with gold ornament weighing 300 gm and hard cash.
