Five detained for group clash in city hotel

The Commissionerate Police on Monday detained five bouncers/security personnel of Hotel Hindustan International (HHI) under Kharavela Nagar police limits for interrogation into the group clash that broke out in the hotel on Sunday night.

According to reports, tension ran high between the students’ wings of a political party and hotel staff during a special programme inside the HHI hotel bar. Three persons – namely Utkal Kishore Jena, Kiran and Deepak – were seriously injured in the clash.

After news about the clash spread, a group of students and supporters of the injured reached the spot and ransacked furniture and properties of the hotels. The situation was brought under control only after Deputy Commissioner of Police Nitinjeet Singh, along with Kharvela Nagar and Capital IICs, arrived on the scene. Two platoons police force were deployed near the hotel

The injured were later taken to private hospital for treatment.

In the wee hours of Monday, police resorted to lathi charge on the supporters of the injured for creating nuisance in front of the hotel again.
