First radio broadcast in India commemorated in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar, July 24:

Leading social organisation ‘Outreach’, in association with Community Radio Association east zone, organised a function at the Red Cross Bhavan Seminar Hall at Bhubaneswar on Wednesday to commemorate the 87th anniversary of the first radio broadcast in India.

IMG_5840The first radio broadcast took place in Mumbai by a radio club way back on July 23, 1927.

Deputy Director of Akashvani Dr. Shantanu Rath, Founder of the most popular private FM Radio Choklate Soumya Ranjan Pattnaik, Director of Prashar Bharati staff training institute Dipak Samantarai, Vice President of Community Radio Association and N A Shah Ansari, among others, graced the occasion as guest.

Radio professionals from different All India Radio stations, Radio Choklate, Big 92.7 FM, Radio Sanskar, Radio Muskan, Radio Namaskar, Radio Kissan, internet channel odiaradio.com and other radio stations joined the mega event. Most of the upcoming community radio channel members were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the topic for the day, ‘Community Radio for change’, the guests called for emphasis on the growth of community radio for local development. Community radio can play a great role in the conservation of culture, tradition, music and language, the speakers said.
“Phase 3 private FM bidding is already too late. On the other hand the government has not given a single license to any organisation in the last three years.The process for licensing needs to be faster,” famous Radio Jockey and President of ‘Outreach’ Subrat Kumar Pati said on the occasion.

A large number of Radio Journalism students, NGO members, social activists, journalists also joined the event.
