Bhubaneswar, Sept 3 :
The State Election Commission (SEC) today asked Steel & Mines department to file an FIR with the police to find out who had faxed a letter containing a list of BJD’s probable candidates for the forthcoming municipal polls from its office to the office of Collector, Angul.
The commission further asked the department to apprise it of the action taken within two days. The SEC’s instructions follow the department’s submission before the Commission pleading ignorance about who had faxed the letter from its office.
The SEC had sought a response from the department after Congress and BJP lodged protest with it and demanded action against Steel & Mines minister Rajanikant Singh accusing him of misusing his office to benefit the ruling party in the urban polls set to be held on September 19.
Following media reports about the fax faux pas the state Government transferred Angul collector Aravind Agarwal and suspended his personal assistant after the intervention by the SEC.
Singh has, however, pleaded innocence in the case.
