Father, son feared drowned in Mahanadi

Cuttack, June 10:

A man and his son were feared drowned in the river Mahanadi today after they went missing while taking a bath near Jagatpur in Odisha’s Cuttack district.

The mishap occurred around 3 pm in the afternoon while the father and son duo had gone to the river to take a bath and were swept away by the river current, preliminary reports said.

Local sources said the father, a lorry driver from Andhra Pradesh had unloaded the cargo, he was carrying, at a godown in Jagatpur on Monday and was waiting for the cargo to be loaded in his lorry for the down trip. His son had accompanied him on this trip.

Rescue operations by fire brigade and ODRAF personnel, which continued till late evening , failed to trace the father son duo and had to be suspended for the day due to poor visibility.

Rescue operations will resume tomorrow morning, said sources.

The exact identities of the father and son duo are not yet known.
