Rourkela, Mar 3:
A 30-year old tribal farmer has landed in jail for allegedly killing his two-month-old daughter here, police said.
Farmer Francis was sent to 14 day jail custody after a local court refused to grant him bail.
Francis was caught by locals and taken to the Bisra police station in Odisha’s Sundergarh district where he was arrested after his wife raised an alarm when he was trying to escape after allegedly killing his baby daughter in their residence, police said.
Ameni, the farmer’s wife, has alleged that her husband Francis had been threatening to kill the baby girl, their second child, since her birth because he always wanted a boy.
She has further alleged that Francis used to misbehave with her as their first child was also a girl and the ill-treatment aggravated after she gave birth to another girl, police said.
She said she had shifted to her in-laws’ home two months back fearing threat to the new born. They had only come back on Friday after Francis convinced them that he would not harm the baby.
