Bhubaneswar, Dec 19:

After close to a week’s demand by different farmers’ groups and political parties for immediate unconditional release of the two leaders of Navanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) – convener Akshaya Kumar and its associate convener Seshadev Nanda, a local court in Odisha capital today granted bail to the duo who was on a hunger strike in the Jharpada Special Jail here.

Notably, Twin City Commissionorate police had arrested the duo with several farmer leaders a day ahead of the nonpolitical organization’s ‘Farmers’ Conclave’ scheduled in Bhubaneswar on December 14.

Odisha police also had detained and arrested hundreds of farmers who were heading to the capital on December 14. The issue also echoed in the winter session of Odisha assembly which adjourned sine die a day after the incident.
