Bhubaneswar, Mar 16:
Odisha police today claimed to have busted a fake currency printing unit in the capital city.
Baripada Town police raided a house in Salia Sahi – the biggest slum in the city – where the illegal unit was operating.
The cops seized fake currency papers, color printer and cartridge from the spot.
This comes after the arrest of a college student from Baripada, Shagen Tudu, on March 9 while he was transacting a fake Rs 500 note at a shop in Sunagadia area. The locals apprehended him on suspicion and handed him over to police.
As many as 32 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination were seized from the possession of the 20-year-old boy. Interestingly, all the currencies bore identical series and serial number.
During interrogation, Shagen had told police that he had got the notes from a friend residing in Patia area here. On further interrogation, the accused led police to the den at Salia Sahi where the illegal activity was going on. During house search, the machines and other things were seized from the slum.
