Extraction of coal from all Schedule-II coal mines in the country will commence by March 31, informed Anil Swarup, Union Coal secretary at an important meeting on increasing coal production and strengthening of its transportation held in the Odisha capital today.
“Presently, coal is being extracted from 10 coal mines. By March 31 coal extraction will begin from Schedule-II coal mines in the country. There are 34 Schedule-II coal mines in the country. Out of them one is in Odisha,” said Swarup speaking to reporters after the meeting.
The Union Coal secretary further said that emphasis will be laid on enhancing coal production capacity of MCL.
Coordination between state and Central governments in the fields of coal production and transportation will be stressed, Swarup added.
The meeting was attended by mining officials of seven states Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Odisha.
The meeting discussed enhancing of coal production, status of captive coal mines and strengthening of coal transportation.
