New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar, Jun 8:
With less than two days to go before Odisha Congress observes ‘Dhikkar Divas’ across the state, former Chief Minister and senior leader Hemanand Biswal today met AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi and expressed displeasure over the party’s state leadership.
He further said that he cannot rule out dissent in the party and demanded “respectable positions” for senior leaders.
“I met Rahul Gandhi at 10:45 this morning. We discussed various issues including the steps that need to be taken to strengthen the party in the state. I requested him to call up all senior leaders and MLAs of the party for a meeting and ask them to work together so that the party can come back to power in the state,” said Biswal after the meeting.
“Even though it is not very much visible, some people must have been dissatisfied. I cannot deny that there is no dissent. There are talks of AICC reshuffle. I have requested to consider senior leaders for respectable positions and allow them more responsibilities,” the veteran leader added.
Biswal’s meeting with Rahul and his statement after the meeting, however, were not well received back in Odisha.
“Even though it is inappropriate to comment on the statement of such a senior leader, I think his statement was uncalled for. More so at a time when the party is trying to organise demonstrations across all district headquarters and block offices in the state. This will negatively impact the party workers,” said Odisha Congress Spokesperson Sarat Rout.
