The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch police today arrested chief of non governmental organization ‘Biswa’ Khirodh Mallick from Sambalpur on charges of defrauding depositors of Rs 10 crore, informed B K Sharma, ADG Crime Branch.
Mallick had raised crores of money from depositors through various wings of his NGO, EOW sources said.
Despite an embargo imposed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in June this year, ‘Biswa’ continued collecting money from depositors prompting the latter to write to the Odisha government asking for action against it.
The EOW had registered a case against ‘Biswa’ three days ago as per the direction of the Odisha government, the sources added.
Mallick charged with collecting deposits like chit fund companies to the tune of Rs 10 crore and then cheating depositors’ of their money, Sharma clarified.
