Bhubaneswar, Mar 28:
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Home department of the state to ensure that the ruling party does not dictate terms in the matter of booking meeting grounds, guest houses and government buildings during elections.
The commission said all political parties should get equal opportunities in booking government buildings and play grounds.
It has also asked the Home department to keep a strict vigil on day to day affairs at the sensitive places and take the assistance of police to maintain peace in the areas.
“Even though there is a system has been developed to get permission to hold rallies through a single window system, sometimes the political parties create disturbances adopting ill motive. The police should take necessary steps examining the situation even though there is flying squad, general observers and static surveillance team,” said a release of the chief electoral officer (CEO) here.
