Bhubaneswar, July 9:
A 19-year-old engineering student of a private college under Chandrasekharpur police limits here allegedly committed suicide today by consuming poison. The reason behind the suicide, however, was yet to be ascertained by the police.
The police recovered his body from his hostel room at Damana village here, where he had been staying since his admission into the college.
The deceased has been identified as Kausala Swain, a resident of Nuagaon in Jagatsinghpur district.
Chandrasekharpur police said they received a call from the hostel inmates saying that the youth, a second year engineering student, was not responding to knocks on the door.
A police team rushed to the spot and broke open the door to find Swain lying dead on the bed with saliva oozing out of his mouth. He was immediately rushed to the Capital Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. His body has been sent for autopsy.
No suicide note has been found from the spot, police said, suspecting the death of the student could have occurred on consuming poison as they have collected a poison bottle from the spot. Investigation is on to ascertain the fact behind the death of Swain, the police sources added.
Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased have reached the city after getting a call from the police.
