Bandhugaon ( Koraput), Dec 9:
The sarpanchs and members of all the 12 panchayats in Bandhugaon block in Koraput district today handed over their resignation letters addressed to the Koraput collector to the BDO Damabrudhar Mallik. They cited non-implementation of development programmes in their areas as the reason behind their en masse resignation.
Earlier on December 5, nine elected PRI representatives including two members of the Koraput Zilla Parishad led by the chairperson of the Bandhugaon Panchayat Samiti Pidika Ambe had resigned from their posts on similar grounds..
It is clear that these en masse resignations follow last month’s diktats issued first by the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh ( CMAS) leader Nachika Linga and two days later by the Srikakulam-Koraput division of the Maoists asking the elected PRI members of Bandhugaon and Narayanpatna blocks to resign from their positions latest by December 5, on the ground that they had “failed” to ensure development in their areas .
