Angul: Panic gripped Sadar block of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district as elephants crushed two persons to death this morning. A herd of elephants, around 30 in number, were seen roaming in the nearby forest.
According to reports, one Achyuta Rout of Chaulia village was trampled to death by an elephant while he had gone to his farmland to pluck brinjals early this morning. The jumbo crushed Rout’s head resulting in his death on the spot.
Similarly, a bunch of elephants trampled one Niranjan Mohanty of Damodarnali village to death while he had gone to attend nature’s call.
Both the bodies were sent to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem.
On being informed, Forest officials rushed to the spot and initiated efforts to ward off the pachyderms from residential areas.
