Bhubaneswar: An ailing elephant calf died today while undergoing treatment at the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Odisha capital.
The 8-month-old baby elephant was rescued by Forest officials from Hitinda forest under Hindol Forest Range in Dhenkanal district on November 24. The animal was later shifted to OUAT for treatment.
The elephant was facing trouble in breathing along with infection in mouth. It was also suffering from fever and undergoing treatment with fluid therapy and antibiotics, sources said.
