Bhubaneswar: In yet another incident of crime against senior citizens in Odisha capital, an elderly woman was found murdered by unidentified miscreants at her house today.
The deceased has been identified as Manorama Panda, who was staying in her home at Ganguari near Pahala on the city outskirts.
According to sources, the elderly woman was staying alone in her home. Some unidentified miscreants had barged into her house last night and looted cash and gold ornaments. It is suspected that miscreants had killed the elderly woman to carry out their loot smoothly.
The incident came to light when the deceased’s daughter, who used to live in the same locality, found her mother lying in a pool of blood and immediately informed the cops about it.
“When my mother didn’t receive my phone calls this morning, I went to her house and knocked on the door only to find it locked from inside. When there was no response, we broke open the door and found her body was lying in pool of blood,” the daughter of the deceased told reporters.
Preliminary investigation shows the elderly woman was murdered but the exact cause behind it is yet to be ascertained, police said.
The police has sent the body for post mortem.
Meanwhile, a scientific team and dog squad have rushed to the spot to carry out investigations.
