The mass egg laying of Olive Ridley turtles has begun with around 10 turtles laying eggs in last couple of days coming ashore at Odisha’s Gahirmatha in Kendrapara district ahead of their nesting season.


According to reports, thousands of turtles have thronged the beaches along the Bay of Bengal at Babubali, Agarnashi-I, Nasi-II, Habalikhati, Barunei, Satabhaya and Pentha for mating in the sanctuary within one km from coastline.

District forest officials, Coast guard officials, Fishery department and police are conducting patrolling to protect the rare species of turtle.
