Duo forwarded to court for assaulting traffic constable in Odisha

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Berhampur, Oct 13:

A day after the brazen attack on a traffic constable in southern Odisha’s business hub, the duo has been arrested and forwarded to local court here today.

As per reports, the traffic constable identified as Bipin Bihari Gouda denied permission to allow a truck to pass through a no-entry zone. Following this, the truck owner and the driver assaulted him at Andhapasara Road under Gosaninuagaon police station limits for denying them entry.

The arrested duo— Santosh Kumar Gouda and Ganeswar Sahu— alleged that the cop demanded bribe to do them a favour and tried to snatch away their gold chain. They got infuriated and assaulted him, they claimed.

“The duo came in a scooterette and demanded Rs 100 identifying themselves as journalists. They alleged that I have been collecting money from no-entry zone for which they wanted a cut from it. When I refused to give money, they said that they would publish me photograph in media. Moments later, they started abusing me and beat me up,” injured constable Bipin Bihari Bouda claimed.

The truck owner, however, denied the allegations. He said: “I was moving along with the truck in my scooterette. The traffic constable was collecting money from trucks. When he asked for money, I said the no-entry restrictions are over and I won’t pay money. Then he pulled out a sugarcane stick and beat me.”

We are investigating into the matter where an on-duty traffic constable has been assaulted.
