Balangir, Jun 23:
A day after his surrender, Balangir Town police today arrested Khirod Mishra alias Guruji, a gang member of dreaded criminal Timan Kumbhar, in a land fraud case.
Mishra was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by one Masiha Charan Das on Wednesday evening. Das has alleged that he was beaten by gang members of Timan in the presence of Mishra and forced to sign on a blank paper at gun point. Using the signature, they took possession of his land, Das said. The incident had taken place way back in 2013.
Acting on the complaint lodged by Das, police arrested Mishra, who had surrendered at the Sadar police station here yesterday.
Police had on May 29 issued non-bailable warrants (NBW) against Mishra and 9 other gang members and declared them as absconders.
Mishra, a teacher by profession, is allegedly involved in several cases of land grabbing. Earlier this month, the district administration had demolished a building illegally constructed by Mishra on a government school land at Shantipada here.
In a related development, two aides of Timan, identified as Rajiv Pal and Trinath Bharasagar, were arrested today.
