Bhubaneswar, Jan 9:
Deputy Labour Commissioner, Khurda Pradeep Kumar Mohapatra on Thursday announced a thorough probe into the Kalpana Cinema roof collapse that killed two workers on Wednesday.
Talking to media persons today, Mohapatra said stringent action would be taken against the guilty after the inquiry.
“We will investigate who engaged the workers for the demolition of the cinema hall, when the process began and how the mishap occurred. After the investigation, stringent action will be taken against the culprits,” he said.
Sources said the demolition was carried out without due permission from the concerned authorities.
Meanwhile, Trade Union Leader Naba Kishore Mohanty alleged that several other buildings in the city were demolished without due permission and in gross violation of safety norms. Blaming the mandarins of the Labour Commissioner’s office for the tragedy, he said they had failed to check such incidents in the city.
The owner of the theatre Siba Samal and the Contractor Siba Prasad Mishra, who was assigned with the demolition task, are still at large.
The mishap occurred yesterday when a part of the roof of the defunct cinema hall caved in on two persons engaged in the demolition.
