The state government on Saturday urged the Petroleum ministry to extend the deadline for implementation of the direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme for transfer of subsidy on LPG to the bank account of the consumers.
In a letter to Union Petroleum secretary, state chief secretary JK Mohapatra requested the extension of deadline from January 31 to April 30 for seven districts in the first phase. He also requested the ministry to extend the deadline for three districts up to June 30 in the second phase.
While the Centre is all set to roll out the Unique Identity (UID) or ‘Aadhar’ card linked DBTscheme for LPG in eight district in the state soon, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has set a target for completion of the enrolment process for Aadhar cards in these districts by March 2014 and in the whole of the state by December, 2014. The eight districts are Cuttack, Puri, Balangir, Khordha, Bhadrak, Baleswar, Sonepur and Sundargarh.
