Bhubaneswar, Feb 14:
Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today reviewed preparations for the mega farmers’ convention in Odisha’s Bargarh ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the town on February 21.
Pradhan landed at Bhatli Circus Field today along with state BJP president Basant Panda and was received by the party’s Bargarh unit workers in a large bike rally. Later he held meetings with some of the party leaders at the party’s Bargarh office and inspected the work on the ground being carried out before the main event.
“Welfare schemes of the Central government such as health card, crop insurance, easy availability of fertilizers, turning around local industry will be given importance in the convention. BJP had always been with the farmer and would continue to do so,” said Basant Panda speaking to reporters in Bargarh today.
“We will not only offer insurance for Rabi crops, but will also offer insurance for fruit cultivation and for losses that incur after harvest. This is the best insurance provision ever made for the farmers of this country,” said Pradhan explaining one of the pro-farmer steps his NDA government is taking.
More than a hundred thousand farmers from across the state and beyond are expected at the venue on February 21. Tight security arrangements are also being made. Police and sniffer dogs have already been deployed to keep a tight vigil on the field and its surroundings.
Notably, the party would hold four such meetings in the country. The series will start from Bhopal where the meeting will be held on February 18 and Bargarh will be the second venue. Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh will follow, as announced by the party.
