Bhubaneswar, July 25:
Eminent writers Prof Shantanu Kumar Acharya and Dr Dhaneswar Mohapatra were conferred Odisha’s most prestigious literary award Atibadi Jagannath Das Puraskar for the year 2014 and 2013 respectively at a formal ceremony at Jayadev Bhawan here this evening.
These awards were announced by the Odisha Sahitya Akademi on July 5.
The Atibadi award, considered Odisha’s highest literary honour, carries Rs 1 lakh in cash and a citation.
Dr Mahapatra and Dr Acharya received the award from Odisha’s Culture and Tourism Minister Ashok Panda in the presence of Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Commissioner-Cum-Secretary of Tourism and Culture department and other dignitaries on the dais.
The state government had doubled the amount of the cash prize of Atibadi Puraskar from the existing Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh only recently.
