Bhubaneswar, Mar 13:
While there is almost a rat race among politicians of other parties and non politicians to have a slice of the BJD cake in Odisha, the party had its first deserter today.
Former Planning and Coordination minister in the Naveen Patnaik government between in 2004-2009, Duryodhan Majhi today announced his resignation from the BJD. Majhi announced that he will be joining the BJP tomorrow.
Majhi, who had won elections from Khariar assembly constituency five times, was defeated by BJP’s Hitesh Bagarti in the 2009 elections to the state assembly. Interestingly, Bagarti who was allotted a ticket by the BJP for the same constituency has refused to contest on health grounds this time.
Majhi’s resignation today is being seen as a response to the naming of Lambodhar Nial as the BJD candidate for the Khariar assembly constituency on Wednesday.
