The local Met office today predicted heavy rainfall in most parts of coastal Odisha within the next 24 hours.
“A depression formed over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh coast this morning, has moved north-west and lay centred at 5.30 PM over the same area near latitude 18.50N and longitude 85.50E, about 150 km south-southwest of Puri. The system would move north-west and cross the Odisha coast between Gopalpur and Puri by tomorrow morning. Under its influence, rain or thundershower would occur at most places over Odisha with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over South Odisha and extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over North Odisha during next 24 hours,” a release by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar said.
The department has asked fishermen not to venture into the sea as strong and squally surface wind from north-easterly direction with speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting up to 65-kmph gusting would occur along and off the coast.
Meanwhile, the Local Cautionary signal number-3 (LC-III) has been hoisted at all ports in the state.
