New Delhi, June 16 :
A 24-year-old man from a rich family called his brother over the phone to inform him about his suicide plan and later shot himself with a locally-made pistol in front of him at his residence Monday, police said.
Aashish, the son of a businessman who died a few years ago, shot himself in the left side of his chest around 4 a.m. after drinking alcohol at his residence in Prashant Vihar area of west Delhi.
“Aashish made a call to his elder brother Anuj around 3.30 a.m. and informed him that he was going to kill himself. He also recorded his statement on his mobile phone, which has been seized by police,” said a police official.
On getting his brother’s phone call, Anuj rushed home just before Aashish took the extreme step, the official said.
Aashish, however, did not open the door of his room and shot himself.
Anuj broke open the door with the help of a guard and informed police before taking the injuyred Aashish him to a hospital where he died.
During initial inquiry, it was found that Aashish was unemployed but belonged to a rich family.
He has his own three-storey bungalow from where he drew rent in lakhs of rupees. He was leading a luxurious life but was addicted to alcohol, the police official said.
His brother told police that Aashish had previously called him many times and threatened to kill himself but this time he carried out his threat.
The reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained. No suicide note was recovered from the man’s possession.
