Koraput, Oct 25:
Koraput is winter’s home- goes an old popular saying in this part of south Odisha. But this year Cyclone Hudhud seems to have chased the chill factor far away.
The district experiences a nip in the air around the Dussehra festivities or even earlier- by the last week of September and first week of October- every year. People in Pottangi, Damanjodi, Semiliguda, Nandapur, Laxmipur and Koraput blocks of the district generally experience early winter.
However, there is a stark deviation this year as there is no sign of winter in the district even though it is the last week of October.
While the night temperature hovers around 18 degree Celsius now, fog descends on most of the areas by 10 PM and stays on till 7 AM. The farmers here have reasons for worry because fog has a detrimental effect on the vegetable and oil seed crops.
The weather scientists have attributed the sudden change in weather condition in the district to the impact of cyclonic storm Hudhud in October this year.
Met expers say the winter in the district is yet to set in due to the warmth in the atmosphere but believe it will take another week for the arrival of winter.
