Bhubaneswar, Dec 7:
The depression over southwest Bay of Bengal which had intensified into a deep depression on Friday night and later intensified into cyclonic storm ‘Madi’, lay centred over southwest Bay of Bengal, about 975 km South of Gopalpur and 500 km southeast of Chennai on Saturday.
According to local Met office sources, it would intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during next 24 hours and would move nearly northwards very slowly during next 48 hours and then move towards north-northeast.
However, the cyclonic storm will have no impact on Odisha, Met department sources said. The weather will be mainly dry over the state during next 24 hours, the sources said.
Meanwhile, distant cautionary signal number-2 has been hoisted at Paradip and Gopalpur ports in Odisha.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea.
