Sonepur: Yet another farmer has ended his life in Sonepur district of Odisha, allegedly due to crop loss and loan burden.

The deceased had been identified as a 25-year-old farmer named Mahan Kalata, a native of Chulimal village of Bhandar panchayat under Binika police limits.

According to reports, the young farmer consumed poison in the wee hours of the morning today and was admitted to the nearby medical facility. However, he was shifted to VIMSAR in Burla as his condition worsened and breathed his last subsequently, while undergoing treatment.

Sources said that Mahan was cultivating crops on five acres of land, but incurred heavy losses as he lost all crop produce to a pest attack.

He had got married last month and was under a lot of stress due to mounting loan burden and pest menace resulting in complete loss of crop, revealed family members.
