A cotton farmer of Odisha’s Rayagada district has been admitted to MKCG Medical College at Brahmapur in a critical condition after an alleged failed suicide attempt.
Ramdas Kalka, a cotton farmer of Kodingiguda village under Halua panchayat had allegedly consumed poison on Thursday evening after his crops had failed. Ramdas had grown cotton crop on four acres of land by taking a loan of Rs 50,000 from private moneylenders.
Though plants had come up, there were no blossoms. Worried over the bleak prospects of repaying his borrowings with failed crops, Ramdas attempted to end his life by consuming poison, his family members alleged.
He was initially admitted to the district headquarters hospital at Rayagada and as his condition deteriorated he was shifted to MKCG Medical College & Hospital.
