Interrogation of one of the accused by the police has revealed that the deal or the’supari’ was not to kill Acharya but simply to terrorise him and leave him badly injured.

The accused were paid Rs 50,000 with instructions that they would assault Acharya but not kill him. But the accused exceeded their brief and killed him, police said based on the confessions made by the accused.

Ganjam SP Ashish Kumar Singh, who is personally monitoring the investigation, has entrusted select officers to track the movement of the rest of the absconding accused persons.

Though the police have arrested four accused including a businessman after conducting a series of raids in Kolkata and several areas of the state including Bhubaneswar, efforts are on to nab the remaining accused who have managed to remain at large.

Police have also seized the bike, used by the assailants, from the place of murder.

“Police would reveal the details to the media after arresting the remaining accused”, a senior police official said.
