The day-long bandh called by the district Congress unit in Odisha’s Deogarh demanding declaration of the entire district as drought-hit has paralysed the normal life today.
Vehicles remained off the roads and commercial establishments remained shut. Besides, schools, colleges and other educational institutions were also closed.
The members of the party stated protests in front of several government offices demanding declaration of the entire district as drought-hit and adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased farmers who have committed suicide due to crop loss and loan burden.
Meanwhile, police personnel have been deployed at several points to prevent any untoward situation and maintaion law and order.
Earlier, the District Congress Committee had petitioned the Collector to declare Deogarh as drought-affected.
