Damaged tracks repaired; train services resume in south Odisha

Train services in the Titlagarh-Rayagada section in the south Odisha resumed this morning after the repair of the rail track damaged by suspected Maoists late on Friday night.


Suspected Maoists had triggered two low-intensity blasts on the down line railway track between Doikallu and Muniguda railways stations in Rayagada-Titlagarh rail section under Sambalpur Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) at about 1.30 AM and 4 AM.

As a result, nine trains were detained at six railway stations.

While 18107 Rourkela-Koraput Express and 18517 Korba-Visakhapatnam Express were detained at Ambadola railway station, 13351 Dhanbad-Alleppey Express, 12889 Tata-Yesvantpur Express, 58529 Durg-Visakhapatnam Passenger and 08302 Yesvantpur-Sambalpur Special Train  were detained at Kesinga, Badmal, Titlagarh and Singapur Road railway stations respectively.

Apart from this, 12843 Puri-Ahmedabad Express, 58530 Visakhapatnam-Durg Passenger and 18437 Bhubaneswar-Junagarh Express trains were detained at Rayagada railway station.

Talking to the media today, Director General of Police Sanjib Marik said the entire area where the blast took place, had been sanitized by the police and the para-military forces.
