Expressing confidence in the Ama Odisha Party (AOP) and its president Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, well-known dalit leader, former MLA and former chairman of SC and ST wing of the state Congress Sura Sethi joined the new political outfit here today.
The tall Dalit leader was warmly welcomed by Soumya Ranjan and senior members of the AOP.
In a release, Sethi said major political parties in Odisha had failed to keep their promise to provide dignity, security to the dalits and tribals and work toward their uplift.
He said “I had submitted a five-point charter of demands to Soumya Ranjan Patnaik for the welfare of the dalit and tribals and requested him to incorporate them in his party’s manifesto. I am happy and grateful that he readily agreed”.
Sura Sethi’s longstanding demands include waiver of loans given by the State ST and SC Development Corporation, implementation of he 85th amendment to the Constitution in matters relating to appointment and promotion of backward communities, inclusion of 167 tribal 21 SC communities in the reservation category, allotment of homestead land and house to all landless SC, ST families, proportional reservation of seats ine ducational institutions for the students from the backward community and special enactment of a law to provide social justice to them.
