New Delhi, Oct 26:
The Regionalised Meteorological Centre (RSMC) of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the cyclone NILOFAR would strike north Gujarat and adjoining Pakistan coast in the next 72 hours.
Gujarat has been put on high alert following the IMD warning.
However, the RSMC has estimated the wind speed of the system at landfall to be between 100- 120 kmph.
The latest RSMC bulletin said, “The cyclonic storm, ‘NILOFAR’ over west-central and adjoining southwest Arabian Sea remained practically stationary and lay centred at about 1250 km southwest of Naliya , 1310 km south-southwest of Karachi and 910 km east-southeast of Salalah (Oman). It would move initially north-northwestwards during next 48 hrs and then recurve northeastwards towards north Gujarat and adjoining Pakistan coast during subsequent 72 hrs.”
NILOFAR would intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during next 24 hrs, the RSMC bulletin predicted.
