Cyclonic storm likely to hit Odisha coast Friday

OST Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Oct 8:

A cyclonic storm is likely to lash the Odisha coast on Friday, a release by the Bhubaneswar Met Centre has warned.

The release said a depression which has formed over the north Andaman Sea and lies centred about 1450 km east-southeast of Paradip this morning would intensify into a deep depression and further into a cyclonic storm by tomorrow.

The system, Met department said, would move west-northwestwards towards north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast during the next 72 hours and have a landfall on Friday. Under its impact squally weather would persist along and off Odisha coast over the next 48 hours during which many parts of the state would experience thunder showers and heavy rains.

Distant cautionary signal number one (DC-I) has been hoisted at Paradip and Gopalpur ports in Odisha following the Met warning.

Fishermen have been warned of a rough to very rough sea condition along and off the Odisha coast after 48 hours.
