Cyclone toll mounts to three in Odisha as fisherman is swept away in Puri

The death toll due to severe cyclone Hudhud has increased to three in odisha with a fresh death reported from Puri on Sunday, said Special Relief Commissioner Pradipta Mohapatra.

A fisherman was caught in the sea current amid a tidal surge while he was trying to save his fishing boat anchored in the coast of Puri, Mohapatra said.

Two minors, including a girl, had drowned as a mechanized boat engaged in evacuating people from seaside Satabhaya gram panchayat in Kendrapara district capsized in Baunsagadi rivulet on Saturday.

Three casualties have also been reported from north Andhra Pradesh which bore the brunt of Cyclone Hudhud today.

Interestingly, while less than a lakh of people were evacuated from the vulnerable parts in north Andhra, the number of evacuees in Odisha stood at 1 lakh 11 thousand.
