Cyclone Titli: Four of family, 2 others swept away by flood waters in Odisha

Ganjam: Six people, including four members of a family went missing today after their houses swept away by flood waters in a village in Odisha’s Ganjam district hours after Cyclone ‘Titli’ made landfall near Palasa of Andhra Pradesh.

The incident took place at Bhutapankal village under Gajalbadi panchayat in Bhanjanagar in the district.

Sources said four members, including two elderly persons of a family swept away in flood waters when they were sitting on the top of their Indira Awaas house.  Two others of another family went missing after their house was completely washed away in the flood waters of Adangi river.

According to Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange, a search operation is underway to trace the missing persons.

Worth mentioning, no loss of life was reported from any parts of the State so far, official sources said.

Cyclonic storm ‘Titli’ crossed south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts near Palasa in Srikakulam district between 4.30 AM and 5.30 AM today with estimated maximum sustained surface wind of 140-150 kmph gusting to 165 kmph.

The system is very likely to move northwestwards for next 12 hours and then re-curve northeastwards towards Gangetic West Bengal across Odisha. It is very likely to weaken gradually becoming severe cyclonic storm around noon, cyclonic storm around evening of today and a deep depression by morning of tomorrow.
